June 5th, 1956, the Supreme Court affirmed a lower court's ruling declaring segregation of the Montgomery bus system unjust, giving an essential victory to the great leaders and supporters of the civil rights movement in the 1960s. This court case was a premiere part of the movement back then because it helped instill new hope to the oppressed and allowed them to find momentum with new found support. This case also has a lasting effect today. It does so by reassuring the now common law that segregation of public transit is illegal. In addition, the victory led to the beginning of the end for the maltreatment that was fought in the 1960s movement which can clearly be seen today.
